In 1955, at the behest of the late Ty Tyson and Don Wattrick, two former Presidents, the DSMA Charity Fund (formerly the DSBA scholarship program), was initiated. Working with the Mayor of Detroit's Committee on Youth, the DSMA membership established a modest scholarship fund for one individual, who without assistance, would be unable to take advantage of higher learning educational opportunities. The first recipient was Charles Marble.
Since that time, the DSMA has generated more than $500,000 in gross revenue for scholarships, broadcasting program grants for Michigan high schools, and charitable contributions for meaningful causes like the Michigan Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame, Gleaners Food Bank, Set Sail for Autism, and Detroit Lions Academy!
Now in its 36th year, the DSMA Charity Golf Scramble is a fun day of golf and camaraderie that plays a critical role in raising the funds necessary to support the students and community programs served by our mission. The day will be filled with food, fun, celebrities, gifts, raffles, prizes and 18 holes of golf at one of Metro Detroit’s best golf destinations, all for a great cause!
