Darren McCarty - President
Darren McCarty was born April 1st 1972, in Burnaby, BC. He was raised in Leamington, Ontario where he played for the Southpoint Capitals. Darren continued up the ranks and played for the Belleville Bulls from 1989-1992 and was captain during the 1991-1992 season winning him the Jim Mahon Memorial Trophy as the top scoring right winger.
Darren was drafted by the Detroit Redwings 49th overall in the 1992 NHL Draft. He became the team’s enforcer and a key member of the infamous “Grind Line”. The Red Wings have won 4 Stanley Cups since the 1955, Darren has been a member of the team for all of them.

Since his retirement after the 2008 Stanley Cup Championship, Darren has never left Detroit. Seen regularly on Game Day Live for Red Wings Home Games, Hosts a daily show on the Woodward Sports Network , has his own comic book and graphic novels by Mess Bucket Comics, seen on IMPACT Wrestling, and in 2020, co-founded “Operation Valhalla”, a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to veterans and their families.

After attending Adrian College and Wayne State University he owned Michigan Limousine, with a background in Business, Advertising and Marketing he joined BBDO Detroit (Worldwide) to work on the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge Advertising. As the owner of Leadfoot Consulting, his team consults and executes marketing plans for businesses of all sizes. Personally he enjoys time with his wife & 3 cats, working on his Corvettes, playing Golf and his multiple charitable efforts.
John Topping - Financial Advisor
Started my young career as a chef and bartender in Seattle, Denver & phoenix, moved into the Aviation Industry and worked for Sky Harbor Aviation for a number of years before moving to Michigan and starting my own aviation commercial aircraft company, Aero Concepts, ran this business for eight years. After the downfall in the economy, went to work for Schwan’s foods, managed a depot for six years, moved into transportation and worked for Golden Int’l, transitioned back to the hospitality and currently work for Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest as their Business Transient Sales Manager & Proudly serve as the Treasurer of the DSMA.
With backgrounds in project management and small business development strategies, he joined the MSX International team and held the Dodge Brand manager position that supported Dodge brand events like the NHL Breakout, major auto shows, and targeted market ride and drives.
As the lead PROBLEM SOLVER of Webcentric Communications, Eddie now uses his talents to help small businesses grow using website technology to develop business and grow client interaction. Robin brings over 20 years of Sales and Marketing experience to the DSMA and is currently a Senior Account Executive with Reliance One out of Auburn Hills, focusing on staffing and recruiting. A graduate of The University of Michigan, he has been married since 1998 and is a father to two daughters and two sons. While he didn’t play sports growing up, he gets to live vicariously through his children as they play basketball, baseball, and dance competitively. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends and great conversations over a glass of bourbon.
As an accommodations site committee representative for the World Cup, Superbowl, NHL Winter Classic and ICC Soccer, her sports expertise extends to the University of Michigan athletic program. Shari's devotion to the hotel and tourism industry was recognized as a Visit Detroit 2022 ROSE Award finalist. She is Assistant to the Publisher at The Sun Times Media Group and was newly appointed Executive Administrator of the Ann Arbor Rotary Club and Foundation.
